Our Song of the Open Road

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose."

Palm Beach: family & relaxation

We got to Tom's grandmother's place on Tuesday night. Her neighborhood is paradise - beautiful houses, lush gardens, and lots of peace & quiet. We were glad to spend a few days with Grammie because none of her family lives in Florida, and we hadn't seen her since Christmas. The three of us spent a lot of time doing crossword puzzles, watching CNN, talking, and eating her delicious cracked molasses cookies. Tom and I also hung out at the neighborhood pool in the afternoons - conveniently located right next door. Her house is also oceanfront - so we snuck in a walk on the beach, too.
View from the club house with the pool - Grammie's place is the bottom unit.

While we were in Palm Beach, we also took advantage of the slower schedule to get our first oil change... and as newly minted Lexus owners, it was quite a rude awakening. I'm used to $35 oil changes from my old Saturn, but apparently our car needs synthetic oil, which means an automatic base price of $90!!! Sheesh. Our filters apparently needed to be changed as well (did they really? who knows), and we ended up spending waaaaay more than we ever imagined. Sigh. The price we pay to drive hot wheels, I guess. :-)

We really enjoyed seeing Grammie for a few days and were sad to leave her, but we had to stick to our schedule and keep moving south.

Next up: Miami's South Beach!
